What we paint inside your home
Most interior jobs are some mix of the following. We can take on one room or the whole house, and we'll tell you honestly which surfaces actually need work and which can wait.
- Walls and ceilings. Living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, kitchens, hallways and stairwells. Ceilings get a flat finish that hides roller marks and old repairs.
- Trim, baseboards and crown. Caulked tight to the wall, sanded smooth, painted in a durable enamel.
- Kitchens. Walls, ceilings and trim, and the cabinets too if you want them. See cabinet painting.
- Doors and door frames. Interior doors, closet doors and jambs, with hardware removed or masked.
- Stair railings, balusters and newel posts. Detail work that makes an entryway feel finished. Two-tone combinations like navy rails with white balusters are popular for a reason.
- Bathrooms. Moisture-resistant paint in a satin or semi-gloss sheen, cut clean against tile.
- Accent walls and color changes. Going from dark to light or light to dark takes the right primer and the right number of coats. We plan for it instead of hoping the second coat covers.
How we work in an occupied home
Your house is not a job site to us; it's where you live. Before any paint opens, floors are covered with drop cloths or protective paper, furniture is moved to the center of the room and wrapped, outlets and switch plates come off, and fixtures are masked. Dust from sanding is controlled and cleaned up the same day.
Then the real work starts. Nail holes, dents and hairline cracks are filled and sanded. Glossy surfaces are scuffed so new paint grips. Bare patches and stains are spot-primed. Gaps between trim and wall are caulked. Only after that do the finish coats go on, usually two, with edges cut by hand and walls rolled in consistent sections to avoid lap marks.
At the end we remove tape and masking, reinstall plates and hardware, put furniture back, and walk the rooms with you. If you spot something, we fix it before we leave.
Choosing colors and sheens
Picking a color from a two-inch chip is hard. If you're undecided, we can put sample patches on the actual wall so you see the color in your light, morning and evening, before committing to gallons. For sheen, a simple rule covers most homes: flat on ceilings, eggshell or satin on walls, satin or semi-gloss on trim, doors and bathrooms. Higher sheen means easier cleaning but shows more surface flaws, which is another reason the prep matters.
Older Baltimore homes
Baltimore rowhomes and older houses in Harford County often have plaster walls, layers of old paint, settled cracks and trim that has been painted many times. These need more patience than new construction: cracks are opened and filled rather than painted over, loose paint is removed, and chalky or glossy old finishes are primed so the new coat bonds. If the walls are past the point of patching, we'll say so, and a skim coat or new drywall from our drywall team may be the better path.

Interior painting questions
How much does it cost to paint a room in Baltimore?
It depends on the size of the room, ceiling height, how much trim there is, the condition of the walls, and how big a color change you're making. A room with sound walls and a similar color costs less than one with cracked plaster and a dark-to-light switch. We look at the room and give you a written number rather than guessing over the phone.
How long does interior painting take?
A single bedroom with light prep is usually a one-day job. Multiple rooms, ceilings, trim and drywall repair add days. Each coat needs time to dry before the next one goes on, and we don't rush that. Your written estimate includes the schedule we're committing to.
Do I need to move my furniture?
Move small and fragile items if you can. We move larger pieces to the center of the room and cover them, and we protect floors with drop cloths or paper. Tell us about anything delicate or heavy when we come to look.
Will you fix nail holes, cracks and dents first?
Yes. Filling, sanding and spot-priming are part of the scope, not an add-on. For bigger damage, water stains or loose plaster, see our drywall repair page. The same crew does the repair and the painting.
What paint sheen should I use?
Flat or matte on ceilings to hide imperfections. Eggshell or satin on walls in living areas and bedrooms because they wipe clean without glaring. Satin or semi-gloss on trim, doors and bathroom walls where you need moisture resistance and scrubbability. We'll recommend a sheen for each surface on the estimate.
Do you paint trim, doors and stair railings?
Yes. Trim and doors get cleaned, scuff-sanded, caulked and painted with an enamel that levels out and resists chipping. Stair railings and balusters take patience and a steady hand; take a look at the navy and white railing in our gallery.
Can we do this in Spanish?
Of course. Call or text in Spanish and the whole project runs in Spanish, from estimate to walkthrough.
